Pride Recap

One of the many Pink Party cirque performers!

This year’s Pride weekend was bigger than ever! The Center had a full schedule for the weekend, including the fabulous Pink Party, sending volunteers to the Pride festival, and marching with our contingency in the Pride Parade.

Thank you to everyone who kicked off Pride weekend with us at the extravagant Pink Party “Rue Le Cirque”! The event was a huge success and provided a night of dancing, mingling, and live entertainment.

Our double decker parade entry, “We Are Your Center”

The Center was able to tap into our wonderful volunteer base and send over 130 volunteers to staff a portion of tickets sales at the Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Pride Festival. It’s always a pleasure supporting the wonderful work of LBLGP at the festival!

On Sunday, May 18th, our Pride parade contingency,

Kyle Bullock as Pride’s Grand Marshall Special Recognition

along with over 100 marchers, rolled out our parade submission, “We Are Your Center,” highlighting all of the wonderful and diverse clients who make up The Center community. In addition, we were so very proud of Kyle Bullock, our Youth Program Manager, who was chosen as Pride’s Grand Marshall Special Recognition.

Thank you to all who participated in Pride with The Center this year. We Are Your Center!

In Solidarity,

The Center Long Beach

CyberCenter Grand Reopening
Saturday June 14, 2014

The Center is excited to announce the grand reopening of our David Bohnett CyberCenter!
In celebration of a recently received grant from the David Bohnett Foundation, on Saturday June 14, from 12:00pm-2:00pm, join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the grand reopening of our CyberCenter, including the installation of eight new Office-loaded desktops for free client access to network, communicate and explore professional and educational opportunities. Appetizers and refreshments will be served!
The David Bohnett CyberCenter continues to serve as a tremendous asset and resource to The Center and the clients we serve. Thanks to the generosity of the David Bohnett Foundation and their grant to The Center, we are able to support hundreds of clients every month who would otherwise be without access to computers. The CyberCenter serves as a “wired” hub and a safe place through which our members can connect with each other and explore educational, professional and recreational opportunities.

BDSM Workshop
Friday June 27, 2014

w/ Mr. DawsonThis workshop will discuss safety and sane ways to rough up your partner. Punching is not for everyone but for those with a need, this session will explain proper technique for landing the punch and receiving it. Mr. Dawson will explain safe areas of the body to hit and what to expect during and after the scene. Slapping and kicking will also be discussed with attention to the face, crotch and legs. Remember that this is another form of energy exchange between adults and is not a place to go when you are angry. It is a measured form of consensual SM and can be added to your repertoire of ways to sex up your relationship.
ABOUT Mr. Dawson:
Mr. Dawson has been active in the Leather Community for over 20 years. He was selected as International Mr. Drummer in 1989 and has been in demand as an MC, speaker, demonstrator and judge since that time. He was the keynote speaker for Leather Leadership Six and has presented at various leather events including Thunder in the Mountains, South Plains Leather, Southeast Leatherfest and Tribal Fire. He was awarded “2006 Mentor of the Year” by the Los Angeles Leather Coalition and was given the “Leatherman’s Heart Award” at the 2007 Southwest Leather Conference. Most recently he was the featured speaker at the Mr. Leatherman Toronto speaker’s series and was interviewed for an internet blog series.
Mr. Dawson is the past facilitator of the Orange Coast Leather Assembly and a member of AVATAR Los Angeles. He feels that it is up to each of us to educate those new to the scene. He aligns himself with Old Guard ideals and thanks those that have gone before him for his training.
Workshop Fee: $15
