News from The Center Long Beach
Happy Early Holidays!

We’d like to start out by extending our sincerest thanks to the nearly 150 people who came out for the International Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20.

Representative of The Center, Naked Truth Trans Ministry, Assemblymember Lowenthal and Councilmember Lowenthal during the reading of names at the Transgender Day of Remembrance

This was the largest TDoR in Long Beach history and 75 people signed up to organize and mobilize our emerging trans community. Big thanks to Councilmember Dr. Suja

Lowenthal, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Naked Truth Trans Ministry for your co-sponsorship on this event and to our keynote Bamby Salcedo for sharing her words of love and inspiration.

A large portion of this year’s TDoR was dedicating to sharing information about the potential repeal of the historic California School Success and Opportunity Act, a law which ensures that all students-including those who are transgender- have opportunities to be successful in school. The same forces behind the hateful Proposition 8 campaign are mobilizing to try and recall this law. While a long shot, as an LGBTQ and allied community we need to be prepared in case this disgraceful attempting at stripping away students’ rights does qualify. CLICK HERE to sign up for alerts and pledge your support for all California students.
