Elder Abuse Prevention & Education Workshop

Learn the signs of elder abuse and learn how to protect yourself from physical,emotional and financial abuse including scams targeting seniors. This workshop will examine some of the common age-related changes and characteristics that can increase vulnerability to different forms of abuse. We’ll discuss special considerations in understanding older victims and common challenges inserving older adults and their families.
The workshop will be moderated by Rosemary Lewallen, MSG, CPG from the Long Beach Elder Abuse Prevention Team.
Guest Speakers Include:
-Sarah Barnard is the Manager of the Elder Abuse Prevention Program at WISE & Health Aging. She is responsible for educating seniors, first responders, and the community about elder abuse prevention and intervention as well as providing individual case consultation. Sarah is starting a new program with the Long Beach Police Department to offer elder abuse survivors case management, advocacy, and therapy.
-Clinton Desales is a Social Services Supervisor at Adult Protective Services (APS) he was a Field Social Worker for 10 years before becoming supervisor at the San Pedro Field Office. LA County has the largest APS Program in California: Currently there are 19 Field Offices, 180 + social workers. Prior to LA County, Clinton was an Employment and Training Specialist for the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Human Services
