Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20, 2016 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am UTC-8

Join The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, Human Rights Campaign, and Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez, for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR).

This year’s event will feature a reading of names of those lost over the last year as well as a candlelight vigil. Several notable community members will present.

Keynote Speakers:

—Ofelia Barba and daughter Zoey Luna
You might remember Zoey and Ofelia from the documentary, Raising Zoey, which screened at The Center’s QFilm Festival. Zoey continues to advocate for change with her mother and sister always by her side. To hear more about their story, visit https://youtu.be/zUus5XDIX4A.

TDoR was created to memorialize those who are killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. This international event is held every November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 1998 was the impetus for the first vigil held in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.

Parking: There is 2-hour free parking at the closest city parking lot, City Place Lot C #6, at 3rd and Pine, with the entrance accessed on 3rd street.
