Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20, 2015 @ 6:30 pm UTC-8

Join The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, Human Rights Campaign, and Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez, District 1, for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR).

This year’s event will feature a reading of names of those lost over the last year as well as a candlelight vigil. Several notable community members will present, including:

Keynote Speakers:

—Jazzmun Nichcala Crayton (Filmmaker and Activist)

— Patricio “Pat” Manuel (Professional Athlete and Activist)

Remarks By:

—Lena Gonzalez- Councilwoman, 1st District

—Porter Gilberg- Executive Director, The Center

TDoR was created to memorialize those who are killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. This international event is held every November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 1998 was the impetus for the first vigil held in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.
