Vaccinations at The Center
April 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm UTC-8
In preparation for Long Beach LGBT Pride, The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach in collaboration with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will be hosting 2 days of meningitis vaccinations.
Saturday April 15 and May 13, 2017
Meningococcal disease is a serious illness. 1 out of 10 who get the disease die, even with treatment. There have recently been outbreaks of meningococcal disease among men who have sex with men in Los Angeles and Orange County, including the City of Long Beach. To prevent future cases, we are offering free vaccinations provided by the health department.
Additionally, we will be conducting a study to better understand how meningococcus bacteria is carried in certain areas of the body and impacts specific groups. If you identify as male, are at least 18 years old and have had sex (oral or anal) with another man in the previous year and not had a meningococcal vaccine in the previous 5 years, you may qualify to be part of a study. The intentions is to find out why the bacteria is impacting gay men specifically and determine how it is passed on within our communities.
For more information on the study or to participate please contact Sarah Nguyen, HIV/STI testing counselor at The Center, for more information.
The Center is located at 2017 E. 4th Street Long Beach, CA. Parking is available behind the building.
