The Center also had a blast at our 3rd annual Mammogram Screening and Women’s Health Fair on October 25. More than 40 women took advantage of theYWCA‘s free mammogram screenings and dozens more came out

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Wednesday November 20, 2013
Join The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, Human Rights Campaign, The Naked Truth, and Councilmember Dr. Suja Lowenthal for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) at 6:30pm at the Bixby Park band shell.

TDoR was created to memorialize those who are killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. This international event is held every November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 1998 was the impetus for the first vigil held in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.

Please come out for this very moving and important annual event for the transgender community. This year’s event will feature several notable community members including

—-Porter Gilberg- Administrative Director, The Center
—-Dr. Suja Lowenthal- Councilmember, 2nd District
—-Bamby Salcedo- President, [email protected] Coalition

We are honored that internationally recognized transgender activist Bamby Salcedo will be serving as our keynote speaker this year. Immediately following the brief presentations by each of our speakers, a reading of names of those lost over the last year and candlelight vigil will take place along Broadway in the heart of our LGBTQ community. CLICK HERE for more information or to RSVP.
