News from The Center Long Beach
The QFilms Committee with Congressman Alan Lowenthal

What a fabulous time we had at QFilms last month! A big thanks to the more than 1500 hundred attendees, numerous sponsors, and elected officials who presented us with proclamations that helped make our 20th anniversary festival our most successful yet!

The recognition and support has been tremendous over

the last month. On September 24, Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride awarded The Center $3,500 in funding for our programs and services at their annual grant

The Center’s Administrative Director Porter Gilberg with Councilmembers Al Austin and James Johnson at Raise Your Glass! where The Center received recognition for their commitment to social justice in Long Beach

reception. The Center was also absolutely thrilled to receive recognition at the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and a Healthy Community’s big event on September 30. Thank you to the Coalition for all your kind words and

continued support. Additionally, our very own Chairman and President Ron Sylvester was honored yesterday

by the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club as their Man of the Year! Congrats to Ron for your big honor and for all that you do to support The Center and our LGBTQ community!

With so much great stuff in September, we knew we had

The Center’s President & Chairman Ron Sylvester with his award for Man of the Year

to do something big for October. We are excited to announce that WE’VE EXPANDED OUR HOURS!!!! With tremendous support from our community, increased staffing, and a solid financial backbone, we are now able to open an hour earlier each week day at 10AM and we’re now open 10AM-4PM on Saturdays too! We have some great new programs and workshops ahead to make use of our increasing hours and we look forward to sharing all the details soon!

As always, we have some great information on recent

victories and upcoming events below. We hope to see you soon!
